Yes, you heard me right. I just walked out after having a meeting with my supervisor. Apparently a co-worker of mine really doesn't like working with me. The feeling is mutual. She is a big complainer. All of a sudden I was surrounded my complainers and the place just got real negative. It’s hard to sit in a negative environment for 8 hours a day. They would complain about stupid things like other co-workers or little stupid problems that are solvable on projects. Part of the problem is that they do not understand what we do. Not once did I complain back so I was very surprised when I thought I was up for a annual review and a raise and then all of a sudden there was a problem. So, I just walked out because I felt I was being setup since the company has had little business in the past 6 months.
Not only that, I just dumped about $3500 on new computer equipment and updated software that the company could not afford to provide me. On top of that, they promised to send me to a conference once a year as part of my compensation and that never happened. They kept telling me that we didn't meet our revenue goals. I even supplied a second computer so my department could access the shared drives from home so we could work late at night. I loved that company and was so dedicated to it and I feel like I was treated so unfairly. It is really disappointing to me and I feel pretty hurt. Oh well, I guess I will go to the pool and work on my tan now.
Next week I will be in Memphis for two weeks and then Cancun for another two weeks.

OMG. I don't check your blog for a week and this is what I see? Wowsers!
We'll have to get together sometime so you can tell me all about it. I'm not exactly sure when though...between your travel and mine, it might be oh...late Sept.?!
Welcome to the land of the freelancer! Here are some resources for you to explore:
www.mediabistro.com: I've gotten work to more than cover my listing in the Freelance Marketplace. Also they've got a wealth of resources--especially for me, haven't looked to see if they have design resources. A designer recommended the site to me though.
www.freelanceswitch.com: I signed up for their RSS feed. They've got some good articles.
www.houstonima.org: Houston Interactive Marketing Assoc.: Yes, I know who's prez of the board. Still might be a good opp for you to volunteer some time/network.
Best of luck! And have fun on your travels!!!
Thanks for the great resources. I tell you what, it is nice to be off. You should see my tan. Oh, have you ever been on www.elancer.com? It is one that the Art Institute recommends too.
